Color Blocking & African Elements: 2 Spring 2012 Trends In 1 Lip

While color blocking gained notoriety in spring 2011, the craze is still going strong into 2012. The key when rocking this trend is to mix black, white or neutral shades in and to generally avoid using more than three bright colored pieces an outfit.

Along with this vibrant look, Africa got major shine on spring 2012 runways. Take a cue from Proenza Schouler’s bold geometric ensemble in earth tones and Donna Karan’s tribal print number below.

You can now easily get the best of both trends with Violent Lips’ brand new “South African Flag”. The striking combination of colors was adopted in 1994 to reflect unity. Red, white and blue were taken from the Boer Republics, while yellow, black and green were taken from the African National Congress. Black symbolizing the people, green the fertility of the land and gold the mineral wealth beneath the soil.

When it comes to what to wear with these, there’s nothing wrong with using one of the flag’s rich colors in your outfit - but we suggest keeping it relatively clean and let the lips do the talking!

Try lip color blocking with one of our other Patriotic Prints. The German Flag and The French Flag each have great blocks of color and their use of white and black will anchor almost any outfit.
